Breed history

The Havalier is a modern mixed breed developed to combine two historically companion-focused dogs: the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Havanese. Both parent breeds have long histories as lapdogs for royalty and nobility in Europe and Cuba, respectively. Breeders sought to create a small, affectionate dog with a friendly nature and potentially improved health through genetic diversity.
